Episode 9 Jennifer Hudstone and the Fourth Act "And that's when my brother wished the moon blue and the stars fell from the sky, only to stop a meter off the ground and shoot back," Enoch says and Jennifer nods, not listening at all. Enoch's been talking nonsense and walking around in circles ever since he noticed that Jennifer wasn't listening. Jennifer suddenly stops, "Haven't we walked past here already?" "Nope," Enoch replies, despite the fact that they've passed there three times before. "But, I do think I'm lost." Jennifer shrugs and points him in the right direction. "What did you do all day?" Enoch asks, trying to engage her in the conversation once again. "I slept," is all she says. "How could you sleep when there are so many wonderful books?" Enoch gushes. "I've never seen such a large collection of antique books before. They're all typed ...

Episode 8: Jennifer Hudstone and the Times Forgotten

Image
Episode 8 Jennifer Hudstone and the Times Forgotten There are groves in the table. There are patterns in the wood. Jennifer traces them lazily with her finger while laying on her arms. She's lost track of time, hidden in her small sanctuary, and all emotion in the process of replaying the events of the past few weeks in her mind. Which left her feeling numb and drained, utterly exhausted from the lack of sleep and crying. Somewhere in between the sitting and the feeling of falling, Jennifer guesses she'd fallen asleep because no one could survive such a fall in real life. Before quite realizing what had happened, Jennifer finds herself standing in front of her home. Looking around, she finds that there are no other people in the street, there are no cars either. It's about mid-day and there are stars in the sky, but they quickly flicker out, as though they had grown self-conscious, and are replaced by rapidly moving clouds. They swirl and move, a b...

Episode 7: Jennifer Hudstone and the Offset Whispers

Episode 7 Jennifer Hudstone and the Offset Whispers "We both know who starts rumours." Jennifer can't even bring herself to think, let alone engage in this absurd conversation with Ronita. "There has to be more to this," Jennifer blurts out, fumbling over her words as she does so. "There are two sides to every story..." She continues, only to be interrupted. "...and this paints both sides pretty nicely," Ronita says, shaking her head. "But, I get it, she's... just think it over. My lips are sealed." And, after another ten minutes Ronita has made her promise several times over and ushered Jennifer out into the hallway with a sympathetic smile. Jennifer slowly starts walking home, only to realize that she doesn't want to go home. She spends the rest of the afternoon wondering around town aimlessly. A zombie, brainless to her surroundings and heartless and numb toward Tessa and everything at hand...

Episode 6: Jennifer Hudstone and the Spider's Web

Image
Episode 6 Jennifer Hudstone and the Spider's Web Jennifer grabs her desk chair and places it in front of the wall opposite her bed. She takes a seat and admires her work: a Sherlock Holmes-style mind map of events and suspects. After she'd tidied the nursery, she couldn't sleep. Jennifer kept tossing and turning, decided to give up on sleep at about eleven o'clock and started with her mind map instead. Jennifer needs to make sense of her life; nothing makes sense anymore. If her story isn't a love story, which she's not sure that it isn't, then what is it? There used to hang a picture of Tessa and Jennifer on the wall, but Jennifer removed it, placing it on her bed, to make space and used the screw as the centre of her mind map. Jennifer bites on a pen and reads through the sticky note titles – AA (Author's Advocate) Suspects being the centre one. Jennifer had decided that she needed to solve the single mystery that she could sol...
