Episode 17: A Quest for Interesting

Image
Episode 17 A Quest for Interesting “ The air is cold and dry as Jennifer takes her usual route to the library,” Jennifer narrates, having taken it upon herself to tell her own story. Even though her life has grown slightly more interesting in the last few weeks, Jennifer was overcome by the sense of boring that morning. She had woken up feeling extraordinarily mundane and had no motivation to go to work... it had nothing to do with the work itself, but rather with the fact that Jennifer would be doing the exact same thing again. She can't imagine that someone would read a story where the main plot centred around the same daily events, chapter after chapter. Working at the library was interesting, at first, but now that it has become normal, Jennifer's fallen back into her former sense of dullness. “ The road was long, but not long enough for Jennifer to finish pondering the past's events. Events concerning Angus and Enoch and, finally, Tessa as well. A l...

Episode 16: Distracted from Reality

Image
Episode 16 Distracted from Reality Jennifer peers round the shelf and checks the messages on her phone again. Enoch should have been there by now. She had text-ed him a whole hour ago and, inconveniently, he still hadn't arrived. Jennifer makes another round with the trolley and places another two books on their respected shelves, before making her way all the way back to her peeping position near the door. Enoch walks in, while looking at his phone. It looks like he is walking toward the front desk, but before he can reach the halfway mark, Jennifer pulls him in between the shelves. “Finally,” She whispers, to a startled Enoch. “Where were you?” “There were a few things I had to take care of,” Enoch says, he looks sad, but, soon enough, his iconic smile appears. “Let's walk and talk,” Jennifer says and starts pushing the trolley. Enoch grabs a few books and immediately starts reading the blurbs on their backs, while still somehow managing to walk...

Episode 15: The Theory of Tomorrow

Episode 15 The Theory of Tomorrow Jennifer starts when an owl hoots loudly outside her window, but calms and returns to her book soon enough. She is lying in her bed, in the dead of night, reading The Missing Lunch Box. After having freaked out for about half an hour or more, because of the fact that Enoch had written Jennifer a letter, she had decided to distract herself. Jennifer had continued with her overdue homework and then, once that was finished, she started reading her prescribed play. She didn't mean to like the book, but about two acts in she had fallen in love and had to finish it. The play really was good and did correspond somewhat with her own life, but not nearly enough for it to be her story – and what a relief that was. That's why she hadn't read the book earlier, Jennifer was too scared that it was her story and didn't want to know how it ended. The thought that Jennifer's book might be out there somewhere, is absolutely terrify...

Episode 14: Of Books, Letters and Coded Messages

Episode 14 Of Books, Letters and Coded Messages “ Welcome to The Macha Falls Archives,” Jennifer announces to her reader, from her seat behind the front desk. “I can't tell you what a relief this is, yesterday I practically skipped all the way home. My mum wasn't happy at first, but quickly came to see my side of the story as I pointed out how many times I had been passed around...” Ms H walks out from between the shelves, pushing a trolley, and Jennifer quickly continues scanning returned books back into the system. Ms H officially hired Jennifer that morning, on probation, and put her to work behind the desk. What is probation? - you might ask. It means that Jennifer had to work, without pay, for a week and, after that, Ms H gets the final say about if Jennifer can continue working there or not. Honestly, Jennifer is not bothered. She gets a chance and that is all that she wanted – a chance to prove herself. All Jennifer's done so far is scan books, bu...
